La Valle or "La Val", as the locals can their location, is at 1,353 metres above sea level right in the middle of the beautiful Gader Valley (Alta Badia) and it is home to over 1,300 inhabitants St. Genesius forms the centre of the 39 square metre community in the middle of the Dolomites. Numerous smaller hamlets are located in the La Valle Valley extending eastward.
La Val/La Valle is certainly the oldest and most original village in the Gader Valley. The people here still live in part according to the old traditions maintain the original architecture. On a hike to the sunny "Viles" (hamlets), you can admire the authentic famrs and stalls which shape the long-engrained culture of the Ladins.
The culture in La Valle also includes the hand-made artwork that has been operated for centuries. This craftsmanship has its roots in the innate artistic gifts of the citizens of Ladin. Wood, leather, wool and flax are processed by hand. These and other products could be acquired in the many stores in the town of Pederoa.
